In conjunction with the Ipoh City Council's monthly car free day yesterday morning along Jalan Raja DiHilir, members of the non-governmental organisation (NGO) Ipoh City Watch (ICW) promoted its healthy living lifestyle at the Old Town sector of the city.

Led by president Prof Dr Richard Ng, members of the group gathered at the Birch Memorial Clock Tower at 7am and gradually walked 2km over to Ipoh City Hotel, Jalan Dass, passing through the popular Old Town Heritage trail and Memory Lane Sunday market.

The "Heritage Trail Walk" was organised in conjunction with Ipoh Car Free day to promote healthy living, recycling and reduction in carbon emissions.

State committee chairman for Women, Family, Social Welfare, Housing and Local Government Datuk Rusnah Kassim thanked Ng for the positive message promoted by the ICW.

“The walk by ICW will help to inculcate a cleanliness habit in the city,” said Rusmah.

“There is only so much that the state government can do. However, with help from NGOs like ICW, Ipoh will regain its history of being the cleanest and most livable city in the country.”

Those taking part in the walk carried posters reminding residents to help make Ipoh the most livable city in Malaysia and to practice the 3R concept of recycle, reuse and reduce waste.

“The goal of walking through the Heritage Trail was to remind traders it is a tourist area and every effort should be taken to keep it clean and tidy at all times” said Ng.

The members repeated the same message when they stopped at Ladies Lane in front of a hotel and held a signature campaign encouraging customers to embrace the 3Rs and help keep Ipoh clean.

Royal Malaysian Air Force technician Jusrini Aizan, who signed the banner, said the awareness campaign was a positive effort.

“This action to have a clean Ipoh should apply to the whole country. If everyone did their part everywhere would be clean” said Jusrini. – February 29, 2016.

Ipoh City Watch launches recycling initiative - The Malaysian Insider

Ipoh City Watch (ICW), a group with the goal of making Ipoh the most liveable city in Malaysia, has launched a co-operative to recycle waste material.

Koperasi Alam Hijau Perak Berhad was launched by the Exco for Consumer Affairs, Entrepreneur Development, Cooperatives, NGOs and Civil Societies Datuk Samsudin Abu Hassan last weekend.

Samsuddin announced the state was putting RM20,000 into the co-operative, saying it was a positive step benefitting the state, while the Perak Suruhanjaya Koperasi Malaysia similarly announced a grant of RM10,000.

Samsudin said that Perak had a problem with its waste material because it was all being thrown away.

“Ipoh alone generates close to 1 million tonnes of waste each day, and it is all being thrown away,” he said.

“This waste, if recycled, composted and pelletised, will be a positive development because there is a demand for recycled material in industry, for example in the furniture industry.”

Samsudin added the composting of recycled waste was being carried out in other states.

“Having a similar program for Perak would save recycle entrepreneurs on their transport costs and create employment at the same time”.

ICW chairman Dr Richard Ng said the co-operative would provide recycling services throughout the state.

“Our function is to spur economic growth through social entrepreneurship involving the local communities. Hopefully this will lead to reducing the number of illegal dumps.

“Our other activities are to educate the public about the importance of recycling and promoting good environment practices and in time to market recycled products.”

In the past 12 months, ICW has launched a community recycling 3R programme initially in Jelapang Tambahan 2 and subsequently Buntong and Lim Garden. – February 18, 2016.

A total of 129 recycling cages will be placed at flats in Negri Sembilan to enable effective waste sepration at source.

State Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Datuk Jalaluddin Alias said previously, the authorities focused on landed property and it was time flat residents were provided with the facility,

“Landed property occupants can separate and hang the recyclable items in plastic bags near the bins but residents in flats do not have the facilities to do this,” he told reporters after placing the cages at the Senawang flats.

He said the cage had three sections for paper, plastic and other recyclable items.

State Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation (SWCorp) director Zainal Fitri Ahmad said residents should separate and place the items in plastic bags before placing them in the correct section in the cage.

“This is to make the collection process easier and less messy,” he said.

He said collection would be once a week.

Meanwhile, Zainal said 3,610 friendly reminders had been issued to those not separating waste at source in the state.

“We have inspected 76,080 premises out of 218,947 premises in the state,” he said.

He said flats  would also be inspected to ensure the cages were used.

As of December, 52,324kg of recyclable items have been collected in the state.

“Iron, aluminium and glass weighed in highest at 17,078kg,” he said.

He said effectively managing waste would save energy.

“Recycling one glass bottle is equivalent to saving four hours of the energy of a 100watt menthol lightbulb,” he said. – December 17, 2015.

Dato Samsudin Abu Hassan, Perak State Committee Chairman for the Development of Entrepreneurial and Cooperatives, Consumer Affairs, Civil Society and NGO represented by Tuan Haji Tarmidzi Abd Manap, Kinta District Officer, has graced the function which began at 2pm until 6 pm.

3 speakers were invited to speak during the function; ACP Suresh Kumar on Crime Prebvention and Community Safety, Pn Halida Ali onDomestic Violence and Assoc. prof. Dr. Rihard Ng on the PEMADAM Perak 5-year Blueprint and action plans.

The public were treated to an expo which comprised of a display of new Police Cars and Motorcycles, the danger of drugs and activities by Kinta anti-narcotics agency, Recycling and garbage sepearation by SWcorp Perak, Dengue and Health Screen by Health Department and Pantai Hospital, Eye Test by PPIS, and Educational programmes by Open University Malaysia.

The programme was made possible with the help of the Perak State Givernment via PEMADAM Perak.

500 Masyarakat Berbilang Kaum Meriahkan Pesta Cahaya Deepavali - Perak Today

IPOH: Lebih 500 masyarakat berbilang kaum dari sekitar Daerah Kinta telah memeriahkan program ‘Pesta Cahaya Deepavali’ dan Kesejahteraan Rakyat yang berlangsung di Dewan Orang Ramai Jelapang, di sini, petang tadi.

Program yang dianjurkan oleh Persatuan Mencegah Dadah Malaysia (PEMADAM) dengan sokongan Kerajaan Negeri Perak serta agensi-agensi kerajaan bertujuan untuk meraikan masyarakat India yang beragama Hindu.

Menurut Naib Pengerusi PEMADAM Perak, Profesor Madya Dr. Richard Ng, antara tujuan lain program itu adalah untuk memberi kesedaran kepada masyarakat tentang keselamatan.

“Program ini adalah untuk memberi kesedaran tentang pentingnya komuniti mengambil tindakan pencegahan jenayah,” katanya.

Turut hadir sama, Pegawai Daerah Kinta, Tarmidzi Abu Hassan yang mewakili Pengerusi Jawatankuasa Hal Ehwal Pengguna, Pembanguna Usahawan, Koperasi, NGO dan Masyarakat Sivil, Datuk Samsudin Abu Hassan.

Program berkenaan turut diserikan dengan ekspo yang diadakan oleh agensi-agensi kerajaan seperti Agensi anti-Dadah Kebangsaan (ADK), Open University Malaysia (OUM), dan Hospital Pantai Ipoh.

Disamping itu, seramai 100 orang kanak-kanak bawah umur 12 tahun turut diraikan dengan pemberian sumbangan duit raya.

Seramai 100 orang warga emas dan ibu tunggal miskin juga tidak terkecuali daripada menerima bantuan berbentuk barangan makanan sumbangan Ipoh City Watch dan Rukun Tetangga Jelapang.

Zambry tables RM1.08 billion state budget - The Malaysian Insider

The 2016 state budget is seeing a 16% increase in funds for development and a 2% decrease in management costs.

Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir said the RM1.08 billion budget was, however, expected to be in deficit by RM49.18 million.

"Next year, 63.5% of the total budget, or RM691.38million has been allocated for operations.

"This is a reduction of RM16.43 million compared with this year. It reflects the state government's prudence in spending and is in line with the theme of 'prudent budget, people in harmony'," he said at the tabling of the 2016 budget at the state assembly sitting in Ipoh today.

Some 36.5% of the  budget, or RM397.44 million is allocated for development, with the highest portion of RM192.85 million set aside for  the people's social and harmony sector and  RM152.47 million for infrastructure and RM52.12million on economic development.

Zambry said a deficit budget had been annually tabled since 2008, yet the state had ended each year with a surplus since 2010.

"Therefore, although the budget for next year is estimated to be deficit, hopefully it will end with a surplus or at least balanced.

The highlights in the projected budget include an increase in the monthly allocation for all 59 service centres of elected representatives in the state from RM3,000 to RM4,000.

A total RM62.5million is allocated to develop the state's human potential through education scholarships, online tuition programmes and teaching aid programmes for teachers clubs.

Infrastructure improvements include RM9million for flood relief and city drainage plans, RM3.7 million to manage and heal rivers and RM3.3million to upgrade agriculture irrigation, beach bunds and and soil erosion.

PEMADAM Perak through the PEMADAM Kinta District, will be organizing the PESTA CAHAYA DEEPAVALLI & KESEJAHTERAAN RAKYAT KINTA to celebrate the Deepavalli with people from the Kinta District. About 1,000 people of all races are expected to attend this program.

The event will be held with the cooperation of Ipoh City Watch (ICW, a registered NGO actively involved in promoting Ipoh as the most liveable city in Malaysia), Rukun Tetangga Jelapang, State Anti-Narcotics Agency (AADK), Crime Prevention Department of Perak Police (PDRM), Perak Health Department, Yayasan Bina Upaya Darul Ridzuan (YBUDR), Perak SWCorp, Persatuan Prihatin Insan Sikh Perak, Kelab Sukan dan Rekreasi Jelapang, Open University Malaysia and Pantai Hospital.

Dato’ Hj. Samsudin Bin Hj. Abu Hassan, who is also the State PEMADAM Chairman and Exco in charge of NGO, is expected to grace the occasion. The event will be held on 22 November 2015 starting at 2pm at the Jelapang Town Hall, in Jelapang.

Among the highlights of the program include a crime prevention talk by ACP Suresh Kumar, Deputy Head of Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department, PDRM Perak Contingent, Domestic Violence by Puan Halida Ali, President of Perak Women for Women and PEMADAM 5-year blueprint by Associate Prof. Dr. Richard Ng, Vice Chairman of PEMADAM Perak and President of Ipoh City Watch.

Participants will also enjoy a free health screening such as eye check, diabetes, and blood pressure by Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun and other free health check including mammogram test by Hospital Pantai.  There will also be an exhibition by AADK, PDRM, OUM, PPIS, and ICW. There will also a demonstration on how composting can be done by Perak SWCorp.

The first one hundred children registered will be given Deepavalli packet. YBUDR will be giving 100 goodie bags to selected senior citizens and poor single mothers. Participants will be treated to Deepavalli sumptuous and performance.  20 lucky draws will also be given out. All residents from the Kinta District are welcome to attend.
