PANTAI HOSPITAL IPOH CARRYING OUT CSR PROGRAMME WHILE PROTECTING THE ENVIRONMENT

 15 Feb 2024:

Pantai Hospital Ipoh in collaboration with Lions Club of Perak Silver State contributed 32 units of refurbished desktop computers worth RM65,000 to 3 selected schools in Perak recently. The three schools are SK Raja Chulan in Taman Cempaka, SK Methodist  in Tanjong Rambutan and SJKC Chung Hwa in Parit.

The gimmick presentation was carried out during Lions Club of Perak Silver State Charter cum Charity Night. Ms. Chong Siet Fong, CEO of Pantai Hospital Ipoh performed the gimmick presentation to the headmasters of the schools. It was witnessed by Chairman of the Alliance for Safe Community, Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye, who was the Guest of Honour.

The computers were then delivered to the respective schools on a separate date by a team of Pantai Hospital Ipoh IT Department staff. The computers are all equipped with Internet connectivity to enable the students to have access to Internet so that they can gain more information and knowledge to compliment what they learn in the class.

According to Ms. Chong, Pantai Hospital Ipoh is part of the IHH Healthcare Group where our sustainability strategy places our patient first,  while ensuring the planet remains sustainable for generations to come. Doing our part to slow down climate change.

“Because we believe in building a better world, not just for us, but for generations to come. With that Pantai Hospital Ipoh is dedicated to make responsible and sustainable decisions for donation of Refurbished computers.”

Refurbished computers contribute to a circular economy as it means using fewer of the natural resources required in new computers as well as less electronic waste on planet to champion sustainability initiatives. They eliminate the need for additional manufacturing, reducing the carbon footprint associated with new device production. By choosing refurbished computers, we’re diverting electronics away from landfills and minimising the environmental harm associated with improper disposal.”

“We anchor our sustainability approach to make a positive impact on our patients, our people, the public and our planet. We strive to provide excellent care and outcomes to our patients; champion total well-being, development and inclusiveness for our people; give back to the communities in which we operate; while protecting our only home – our planet.”

“We take this opportunity to improve the environment through a sustainability programme while prioritising the education for our communities. We strongly believe that this programme would be beneficial to the students to enable them to gain access to comprehensive online learning; build digital skills and have access to online support & resources.”

Twelve units of the desktop were delivered to SK Raja Chulan on 31st January. On 5th of February, ten units were delivered to SK Methodist and on the 6th February 10 units were delivered to SJKC Chung Hwa.

We were given a surprise by SJKC Chung Hwa as they were also holding a Chinese New Year programme. 80 percent  of the students of SJKC Chung Hwa are Malays where they performed the Lion Dance, Chinese Dance, and Calligraphy. We were also given the honour to toss the Lou Sang together with students, teachers and parents of the schools.

Dr. Richard Ng, President of the Lions Club of Perak who is also the Chairman of the Board of Visitors of Pantai Hospital Ipoh, thanked Pantai Hospital Ipoh for choosing to collaborate with his club. The CSR coincides with the club’s four projects; Protecting the Environment, Education, Youth Development and Cultural.

Lions Club of Perak Silver State also contributed cash to the schools to buy school uniforms, shoes and school bags for 26 students. According to Dr. Richard Ng, this is the second time the club came to this school. A year ago the club did an environment awareness programme by planting two Ficus Elastica Trees which has grown up to ten feet tall now. These trees not only help to absorb carbon dioxide and reduce carbon footprint but also provide oxygen, shades and add the beauty of the school.
